« ABBA est entré dans ma vie le soir du 6 avril 1974 pour ne plus jamais en sortir. Depuis, je n’ai jamais pu imaginer mon existence sans Agnetha, Björn, Benny et Anni-Frid, tant ils font partie de moi. J’étais un adolescent mélancolique, marqué par une enfance triste et solitaire, jusqu’à cette fameuse soirée où ils ont illuminé mon petit écran. En quelques secondes, c’est mon cœur et mon existence qu’ils illuminaient aussi. J’ignorais encore que j’allais profondément me passionner pour ces quatre Suédois au point de leur accorder une place de choix dans ma vie. »

Dans ce court récit, Jean-Marie Potiez raconte sa découverte du groupe ABBA, en plein triomphe du Concours Eurovision 1974, et partage les fortes émotions qu’il a vécues ce soir-là et dans les jours qui ont suivi. Pour le garçon de 13 ans, ABBA ne fut pas un coup de foudre sans lendemain. Les quatre Suédois sont devenus ses compagnons d’adolescence. Avec leurs chansons gaies et pétillantes, ils ont apporté énormément de joie et de bonheur dans son quotidien souvent pesant. À l’instar des membres d’ABBA, Jean-Marie peut donc dire, toutes proportions gardées, que le 6 avril 1974 est aussi « le soir qui a changé sa vie » !

“ABBA entered my life on the evening of April 6, 1974, and has never since left. From that moment on, I could not imagine my existence without Agnetha, Björn, Benny, and Anni-Frid, so much are they a part of me. I was a melancholic teenager, marked by a sad and lonely childhood, until that famous evening when they illuminated my small screen. In a matter of seconds, they also illuminated my heart and my existence. Little did I know that I would become deeply passionate about these four Swedes, to the point of giving them a special place in my life.“

In this short illustrated story, Jean-Marie Potiez recounts his discovery of the ABBA group, during the triumph of the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest, and shares the strong emotions he experienced that evening and in the following days. What happened in his mind and heart? For the 13-year-old boy, ABBA was not a fleeting infatuation. The four Swedes became his companions throughout adolescence. With their cheerful and sparkling songs, they brought a lot of joy and happiness into his often burdensome daily life. Like the members of ABBA, Jean-Marie can say, with all due proportion, that April 6th, 1974, is also “the evening that changed his life“!
