ABBA A to B and Back Again, a critical analysis

Adrian Hesse, illustrations Andreas Seiler

taking a critical approach to ABBA the group and their music, it still is a fan oriented book however with the context of taking a closer look at how the group evolved from peak to levelling out to what is happening now in a contemporary world. The book looks at the studio albums and takes a closer look at ABBA marketing strategies, highlighting many individual songs, the tours, the t.v. promos, and of course the individual members of ABBA and how they melded as a team. The dialogue is open and is expressed as opinion shared by the author and or fans so naturally not everyone will be on the same page about all of the content/context of this work. 30 chapters in total the book is illustrated uniquely throughout by original artwork specifically created for this book.

The mistiming of releasing songs has haunted ABBA from the very beginning to the very end. By the time they finalised the releases of the new songs Under Attack & The Day Before You Came onto a compilation ‘singles’ album and premature singles (B-sides You Owe me One, Cassandra) it was already too late and ABBA was mleft with very little material for the upcoming 9th Studio album which Polar at the time assured was going to happen in 1983….from the chapter End Of The Road ….and then what happened ….we go back to the beginning.
