Do you know if the popgroup ABBA have made a jingle or liners for radio station, the group have visited sometimes to the UK and Australia, do you have this in your big collection?
Thanks for your time,
Albert, Netherlands
ABBA recorded a jingle for BBC Radio 1 in the UK in 1974, set to the tune of the chorus of ‘Waterloo’. It is not known if it was ever aired at the time. It resurfaced in January 2015. That is the only time ABBA recorded a radio jingle.
What was the origin of the chart stats found on the 1990 compilation The Songbook: Australian Chart Hits?
I’m asking this because I saw an ABBA documentary a while back, and before they talked about ‘The Day Before You Came’ they mentioned that it charted at #25 in Australia, a factoid that most likely originated from the aforementioned CD. On the Kent Music Report, the song charted at #48, so it’s definitely not that one.

Aaron, Australia
The chart details for The Songbook CD were compiled from The Book – Top 40 Research by Jim Barnes and Stephen Scanes. The information in this book is based on New South Wales top 40 singles charts, and indeed shows ‘The Day Before You Came’ peaked at #25 during a five-week top 40 chart run. The Kent Music Report (and subsequent book Australian Chart Book 1970-1992), compiled data from all states’ charts.

Several years ago, I bought a framed platinum record of Voulez-Vous. On a little metal board, it’s written that this award rewards 9 million Voulez-Vous worldwide sales from 1979 until 1989. But on BestSellingAlbums.org, it’s noticed that only 2,740,155 of this LP were sold in the story since its release in 1979. So what?
Greetings,
Sergio, Belgium
Certification figures for Voulez-Vous on Wikipedia total sales of 3,267,765. Though that’s only what’s certified, it would have sold more copies than that. Wikipedia also shows the album received 9 platinum sales awards spread over several countries. In the USA, a platinum record equates to 1 million sales, so the figure on your plaque probably came from multiplying those 9 by 1,000,000. In other countries platinum records are awarded for lower figures – in the UK it is for sales of 300,000 copies, in your home country Belgium it was 50,000 up to May 2007, now it’s 30,000.
The plaque you have is a souvenir item, not issued by any recognised authority (for example RIAA in the USA or BPI in the UK). Though it does look very nice.
Do you know if there will a few more new ABBA songs released this year? I’m very excited for the 6th of April.
Best wishes,
Adam
Benny and Björn have insisted that Voyage is the last music ABBA will release. It’s extremely unlikely any further new music or shelved songs will be released, but you never know, they may surprise us.
Do you have any idea how many editions there are of the Japanese promo album of Coca-Cola with the uncensored piece by the DJ, the longer version, and perhaps you also know the number of the second edition, Thanks in advance.
Greetings from the Netherlands
Dirk
There were five different albums and singles released as part of the Coca-Cola promotional campaign – see them all here. According to the book ABBA on Record, there were a total of 700,000 albums and 100,000 singles issued, though we don’t know how many copies there were of the ABBA records, and particularly how many of the original uncensored album were manufactured.
